Book Guessing Challenge!

Hello all! I was tagged by the lovely Leah over at The Overflowing Shelf! Thanks sweetie! It will be my honor to guess terribly wrong and embarrass myself (:

So basically what is going on is you pick a book that you have not read and based on the title and book cover you guess what the book is about. Sounds simple enough right? And based on the synopsis provided by Goodreads, I'll see if I was right or way out in left field.

So without further ado, let's get started!

My Guess: Okay. So this takes place in space. There's a girl and maybe she falls in love with a guy who isn't apart of her world (whoa didn't mean to sound so The Little Mermaid right there) and maybe it's forbidden for them to be together. However, after some crazy event occurs they find themselves working together. I really have no idea haha.

Goodreads synopsis: Luxury spaceliner Icarus suddenly plummets from hyperspace into the nearest planet. Lilac LaRoux and Tarver Merendsen survive -- alone. Lilac is the daughter of the richest man in the universe. Tarver comes from nothing, a cynical war hero. Both journey across the eerie deserted terrain for help. My Reaction: Not bad, kinda close? I mean obviously they are from different "worlds" but in this class social class. I am going to give myself half credit for this one. Yay! Okay next!

My Guess: Okay so I am cheating here. I have this because I heard it's a Beauty and the Beast retelling. So I am going to say that a young girl is forced to go live with a guy that she is completely repulsed by. She cannot stand him and wants nothing to do with him. However, as she gets to know him she discovers that there is so much more under the surface. There is probably something going on around her town and she soon uncovers secrets and she must work with the very man she once hated that she is starting to fall in love with. 

Goodreads synopsis: Based on the classic fairy tale Beauty and the Beast, Cruel Beauty is a dazzling love story about our deepest desires and their power to change our destiny.

Since birth, Nyx has been betrothed to the evil ruler of her kingdom-all because of a foolish bargain struck by her father. And since birth, she has been in training to kill him.

My Reaction: Oh my juice that was long! Hmm good thing I threw in uncovering secrets because my guess was so vague compared to that! Not bad of a guess I guess but sweet mother now I have to read this asap! Doesn't it sound fantastic?!

My Guess: Okay so I am guessing this is about a guy and girl who are locked in some mental institution and they need to find a way to break out of this "Program" because it is a crooked place. The government is probably holding people there who pose as a threat to society and these two need to work together to break free and change the broken system.

Yeah, that is totally what I said... LOL. Whoa that was way better than what I said! This sounds pretty cool. Kind of reminds of Delirium for some reason, I have no idea why.

The Seven Deadly Sins Book Tag!

I saw someone did a book tag on their blog the other day and decided to do it as well since I have nothing else to do. I don't know who created this or else I'd give credit where credit is due. 

Greed

What is your most inexpensive book? What is your most expensive book? 

My most inexpensive books are the ones that were given to me as gifts or ones I got for free on my kindle. My most recent free book was Cursed by Jennifer L Armentrout on my kindle. But since that's too easy I'll pick something else! So I chose Angelfire by Courtney Allison Moulton that I found in a used bookstore for $2! I have not read this book yet, but it is on the list! I'll get to it eventually. 

As for my most expensive, I got The Mortal Instruments box set by Cassandra Clare. I don't remember how much I paid for this exactly, butI think it was relatively cheap since I got it from Barnes & Noble online and they have pretty good deals. It's the most expensive book purchase of mine though because every book I purchase I use coupons or buy online so they are cheaper! 

Wrath

What author do you have a love/hate relationship with?

This is a pretty hard question because I love every single author that I read. The only one I can think of is Nicholas Sparks. I used to read all of his books because I was such a hopeless romantic and loved romance stories when I was younger, but as I got older, his books began to annoy me to no end. Now I have officially given up on his books and refuse to read anything he writes. Every single book is basically the same thing with different characters in a different North/South Carolina town with some tragedy. I am just over it and get annoyed that every single one of his books is turning into a movie. Just stop already. 

Gluttony

What book have you devoured over and over with no shame?

Most definitely The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I have read this trilogy countless times and it's definitely my all time favorite.

Sloth

What book have you neglected reading due to laziness?

Under the Never Sky by Veronica Rossi takes this one because it's been on my shelf for over a year and I just can't finish it. I read about 70 pages and set it down. I just couldn't get into it no matter how excited I was to read it. I don't really know why. Maybe it's because of the sci-fi aspect to it, but I definitely need to just get this done.

Pride

What book do you talk about most in order to sound like an intellectual reader?

I don't do this? But I guess I'll choose The Great Gatsy by F. Scott Fitzgerald just because it was my favorite book I had to read while I was in high school. Good thing I ended up enjoying it.

Lust

What attributes do you find attractive in male or female characters?

*Sigh* book boyfriends. We all have so many. As for me, I love the sassy, witty sense of humor. Guys that are also romantic, protective, strong, a little bad boy but sweet to you. I'm not going to lie, I'm also a sucker for guys with black hair and blue eyes (*cough* William Herondale *cough*). 

Envy

What book would you most like to receive as a gift?

I guess we can just add my whole TBR list on Goodreads for this (hehe). But I'd actually really like a hardcover box set of Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor since I haven't read this series yet and I really, really want to! 

Book Cake Tag!

The lovely Yvonne from a world between folded pages tagged me to do the Book Cake tag! Thanks lovely! Tags are always fun. 

Flour: A book that was a little bit slow to start off but really picked up as it went along.

I choose The Testing by Joelle Charbonneau. I was into this book from the beginning, but I feel like it took a little while for it to get going. I felt like I was just going through the motions at first. But then I got into it and found it quite intriguing, even though it was a little bit like The Hunger Games at times for me. 

Margarine: A book that had a rich, great plot.

I immediately think of The Grisha trilogy by Leigh Bardugo. Shadow and Bone was so intriguing and grabbed me from the very first pages. I loved the characters and the beautiful magical world that Bardugo created! I could not put this book or series down. 

Eggs: A book you first thought was going to be bad but actually turned out quite enjoyable. 

I am going to have to go with The 5th Wave by Rick Yancey for this one because I am just not a huge sci-fi, alien invasion reader. In fact, I hate sci-fi, but this book was great to me! I was hooked the entire time even though it did get confusing at parts. Many people have said that it is very slow at the beginning, but I didn't feel that way at all. From the very beginning I was hooked. I loved it. 

Sugar: A sugary, sweet book.

For me this has  Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins written all over it. This book was just ooey, gooey love. I absolutely loved it. The characters are all so lovable and the story is just so great. It's a quick and easy read. This will now be my go-to book for a quick pick me up when I am depressed or stressed.  

Icing: A book that covered every single element that you enjoy about a book (funny moments, action moments, sad moments, etc.)

I am going to have to go with Last Sacrifice by Richelle Mead for this one. This is the last book in the Vampire Academy series and I was actually hooked through the whole series. I read the series in about a week and it has everything: a strong female heroine, witty characters, two sexy male characters that you will fall in love with, action, humor, and everything else you love. If you can get over how cheesy you may think Vampire Academy may be, you'll be surprised by how great it actually is. I know because I was one of those people who thought it was the most cheesy and stupid series out there, but it ended up being one of my favorites once I gave it a chance. 

Sprinkles: A book series that you can kind of turn back to for a little pick me up when you're feeling down. 

This is a little hard for me because I have so many series that I absolutely adore, but to pick me up when I'm down? That has to be the Shatter Me trilogy without a doubt. I choose this because I am so in love with Aaron Warner and if you say you aren't, you're crazy. This man is so sexy and wonderful that I just....gah I love this man so much. Because of his and Juliette's love, I would definitely turn to Shatter Me for many re-reads. 

The Cherry on Top: Your favorite book this year so far. 

Well this year is almost over and I am choosing City of Heavenly Fire by Cassandra Clare for my favorite book this year. This book was a great conclusion to The Mortal Instruments series and I was crying the entire time because it was so hard to say goodbye to all my favorite characters. Plus it had me in suspense throughout the whole book because I was so terrified that some of my favorites were going to die! But I am really glad with how this series ended. Clare certainly knows how to write a finale! It was also so nice to see my favorites from The Infernal Devices series as well. I think their cameos are what made me crying the most! I will forever read anything Cassandra Clare writes!
